About Uisge Beatha

Who runs Uisge Beatha, what the site is for, and how it pays for itself: a UK whisky price-comparison service from the people behind Whiskipedia and CocktailDB.

Uisge Beatha compares the price of the same bottle of whisky across UK retailers. For each bottle we show who has it in stock, what it costs, what delivery adds and when we last checked, with the lowest price first.

Who we are

John Fegan runs the site. He has run Uisge Beatha since 2015 and Whiskipedia, the whisky reference site, since 2020. He also owns whisky casks, so when he writes about storage, insurance or bottling decisions it comes from doing it.

Tom Gregan writes for the site. He is the person behind CocktailDB, and came to whisky by way of cocktails and rum. He spent years on citrus balance, bitters and modifiers before John talked him round to neat spirits.

Uisge Beatha is operated by Single Malt Strategy Limited, registered in Scotland (SC856969).

What the site is for

Whisky prices for the same bottle can differ a lot between shops, and a low shelf price can turn into a high one once delivery is added. We want you to be able to see that in one place before you buy.

  • The same bottle, compared. We match a retailer’s listing to a bottle only when we are confident it is the same whisky: same distillery or brand, age, strength and size. When we are not sure, we leave it out rather than guess.
  • The price you will pay. We show the delivered price for one bottle to a UK mainland address, not only the shelf price.
  • Dated prices. Every price shows when we checked it, and we withdraw prices that are too old to trust.
  • An order that is never for sale. Offers are always sorted lowest first.

Alongside the prices we write guides that help you choose: what cask strength means, how sherry casks change a whisky, which bottles are good value at a given budget. Whiskipedia remains the place for the deeper reference material, and we link to it where it helps.

How we compare prices explains the method in full.

How the site is paid for

Some of our links to retailers are affiliate links. If you follow one and buy, the retailer may pay us a small commission. It costs you nothing extra: you pay the retailer’s own price. That commission is how we pay for the site.

Commission never changes the order of prices, and it never decides which retailers we show. The site has no display advertising and no sponsored listings. How we make money lists which retailers’ links earn commission.
