Arran whisky

Arran single malt is made at the Lochranza distillery on the Isle of Arran, founded in 1993 by Isle of Arran Distillers. The core range runs from Barrel Reserve and the 10 Year Old to Quarter Cask The Bothy and Sherry Cask The Bodega, with Sauternes, port and Amarone cask finishes alongside.

Arran’s own-name malts are mostly unpeated. The company’s peated whisky comes from Lagg, its second distillery at the south of the island, which sells under its own name. The same company also bottles Robert Burns Malt and Robert Burns Blend; the Blend is a blended Scotch, not an Arran single malt.

Questions

What is the cheapest Arran whisky?
The cheapest Arran whisky is Arran Gold Malt Whisky Cream Liqueur (17% ABV, 70cl), at £19.50 from Tyndrum Whisky. That is £24.00 delivered to the UK mainland for one bottle. Next cheapest: Robert Burns Blend (£23.99) and Robert Burns Malt (£29.95).
How much does Arran whisky cost?
Arran whisky costs from £19.50 to £694.95, with a median of £113.95 for a full-size bottle (50cl to 1 litre). The dearest is Arran 30 Year Old Island Single Malt Scotch Whisky 70cl.
What is the oldest Arran whisky you can buy?
Is Arran whisky peated?
Mostly no. Arran’s own-name single malts from Lochranza are generally unpeated; Machrie Moor is the peated exception. The company’s peated whisky is made at Lagg, its second distillery on the island, which opened in 2019 and is sold under the Lagg name.
What is the difference between Arran and Lagg?
Both belong to Isle of Arran Distillers. Arran is made at Lochranza in the north of the island, a distillery founded in 1993. Lagg, in the south, began distilling in 2019 and makes peated single malts such as Kilmory and Corriecravie. See Lagg.
Is the Robert Burns whisky made at Arran?
Isle of Arran Distillers sells Robert Burns Malt, a single malt, and Robert Burns Blend, a blended Scotch. A blended Scotch combines malt and grain whiskies from more than one distillery (Scotch Whisky Regulations 2009), so the Blend is not purely Arran whisky whatever its branding suggests.
