Casks are sold in bond: the whisky stays in a bonded warehouse in Scotland, so no duty or VAT is paid unless it leaves. Storage and insurance cost extra: this seller includes the first year, then charges £100.00 a year per cask. Duty, VAT and bottling costs follow if you take the whisky out. A cask loses volume and strength as it ages.
Buying a cask is not a regulated investment. The FCA does not regulate whisky casks, so you would have no Financial Ombudsman or compensation scheme protection, and values can fall. Read the FCA's warning about unregulated investments.
Prices and details come from The Whisky Index, which sells each cask itself, checked . We earn nothing from these links.
