Brands

This page lists whisky brands that are not themselves distilleries: blends such as Johnnie Walker and Chivas Regal, blended malts such as Monkey Shoulder, Japanese blends such as Hibiki and Nikka, and second labels made at a distillery with another name, such as Kilkerran, Ledaig, Port Charlotte and Octomore. Each brand page shows its bottles in stock at the UK retailers we check, with prices that are the best current in-stock offer (how we compare prices). Single malts named after their distillery live under distilleries, and you can also browse by style or country.

Questions

Which brands are cheapest?
Jameson has the lowest median price, £30.49 for a full-size bottle. Hibiki is the dearest, with a median of £599.95.
What is the difference between a whisky brand and a distillery?
A distillery is the place where whisky is made; a brand is the name on the label. Many single malts share their distillery’s name, but one distillery can make several brands: Springbank in Campbeltown makes Springbank, Longrow and Hazelburn, and Bruichladdich on Islay makes Port Charlotte and Octomore. Blends such as Johnnie Walker combine whisky from many distilleries.
What is the difference between blended Scotch and blended malt?
Blended Scotch whisky combines one or more single malts with one or more single grains, while a blended malt contains only single malts from more than one distillery, with no grain whisky (Scotch Whisky Regulations 2009, reg. 3(2)). Johnnie Walker and Chivas Regal are blends; Monkey Shoulder is a blended malt. See our blended and blended malt pages.
