About this data: method, downloads and sources
How we did it
Delivered price. The price of one bottle delivered to a UK mainland address by the retailer’s lowest-cost standard service, as recorded on 14 October 2026. DrinkSupermarket.com’s comes from its product feed; for the others we apply the delivery policy published on the retailer’s site, checked on 23 October 2026 (linked in the table). Express, Saturday, Highlands and Islands, Northern Ireland and membership schemes are left out. Four offers that a policy does not cover, such as a large-format bottle, have no delivered price and are excluded.
Free delivery. An offer counts as free when the delivered price equals the shelf price. Thresholds apply to the order total, so a second bottle can change the answer; this study is about buying one.
Lowest shelf against lowest delivered. For each bottle in stock at two or more independent retailers, we compare the retailer with the lowest shelf price against the one with the lowest delivered price. Loch Fyne Whiskies and The Whisky Shop share an owner and count as one retailer (we use the lower of their prices).
Coverage. One collection day, 455 bottles and 867 in-stock offers at 5 retailers with 4 owners. Delivery policies change, often around Christmas, so check the retailer’s checkout before buying. We do not yet check supermarkets, Master of Malt or The Whisky Exchange; their published thresholds are listed for reference only.
