Clynelish whisky

Clynelish is a coastal Highland distillery in Brora, Sutherland, prized for its distinctive waxy and textural single malt whisky. A cornerstone of the Johnnie Walker Gold Label blend, Clynelish has earned an ardent following among single malt enthusiasts.

The primary official release is Clynelish 14 Year Old, bottled at 46% ABV, which showcases the distillery’s signature notes of honeycomb, crisp orchard fruit, dried herbs, and coastal brine. Independent bottlers regularly offer single casks, which range from fresh bourbon maturation to deep sherry finishes.

How much does Clynelish whisky cost?

What is the oldest Clynelish whisky you can buy?
Why is Clynelish whisky described as having a waxy character?
Clynelish develops its signature waxy texture from a natural build-up of waxy precipitates in its uncleaned wash receiver tanks. This allows long-chain fatty esters to carry through into the spirit distillation, creating notes reminiscent of beeswax and candle wax.
What is the relationship between Clynelish and Brora?
The modern Clynelish distillery was built in 1967 next door to the original 1819 site. In 1969, the original distillery was renamed Brora to distinguish it from the new build. Brora closed in 1983 and reopened in 2021 as a dedicated luxury distillery.
