Glenlivet whisky

Glenlivet is a Speyside single malt made by Chivas Brothers, best known for Founder’s Reserve and the 12, 15 and 18 Year Old. This page lists the Glenlivet bottles in stock at the UK retailers we check with the lowest current price.

Glenlivet describes its house style as unpeated and fruit-led. Founder’s Reserve carries no age statement; the 12, 15, 18, 21 and 25 Year Old do, and Glenlivet gives the 21 and 25 extra cask finishes. The same aged bottle can cost noticeably different amounts between shops, so match the age, size and edition before comparing; a 3 x 20cl gift set can sit beside 70cl bottles.

The distillery took out its licence in 1824; for the full history, see Whiskipedia’s Glenlivet page. Prices are the best current in-stock offer from the UK retailers we check (how we compare prices).

Questions

What is the cheapest Glenlivet whisky?
The cheapest Glenlivet whisky is The Glenlivet Founder’s Reserve (40% ABV, 70cl), at £29.95 from Master of Malt. That is £34.90 delivered to the UK mainland for one bottle. Next cheapest: The Glenlivet 12 Year Old (£34.95) and The Glenlivet Caribbean Reserve Single Malt Whisky 70cl (£38.50).
How much does Glenlivet whisky cost?
Glenlivet whisky costs from £29.95 to £3,750.00, with a median of £93.95 for a full-size bottle. The dearest is Gordon & MacPhail Glenlivet 1949 Limited Edition Single Cask Speyside Single Malt Scotch Whisky 70cl.
What is the oldest Glenlivet whisky you can buy?
The Glenlivet 25 Year Old, at 25 years old, from £449.95.
What is the difference between Glenlivet Founder's Reserve and the 12 Year Old?
Founder’s Reserve carries no age statement; the 12 Year Old does, and by law the age on a Scotch label is the age of the youngest whisky in the bottle (Scotch Whisky Regulations 2009). Both are bottled at 40% ABV. Glenlivet sells the current 12 as 12 Year Old Double Oak, which it describes as matured in American and European oak.
Why is it called The Glenlivet?
In 1880 John Gordon Smith of the founding family was granted sole rights to the name The Glenlivet. Other Speyside distilleries had been using Glenlivet as a suffix, and some old and independent bottlings still carry the word. Whiskipedia’s Glenlivet page has the full story of the agreement.
