Jura whisky

Jura is the single malt from the only distillery on the Isle of Jura, owned by Whyte & Mackay. This page lists the Jura bottles in stock at the UK retailers we check with the lowest current price, including the 12 Year Old, Seven Wood, the 18 Year Old, 19 Year Old The Paps and 16 Year Old Perspective No.1, alongside independent bottlings.

Jura is legally a Highland whisky, not an Islay one; we group it under Islands. Since the late 1990s most of its new make has started in first-fill bourbon casks, and Jura builds much of the range on finishes such as sherry cask, rye cask and French oak. The same bottle can cost noticeably different amounts between shops.

The distillery dates from 1810 and restarted production in 1963. Prices are the best current in-stock offer from the UK retailers we check (how we compare prices).

Is Jura an Islay whisky?
No. Jura is made on the Isle of Jura, a separate island from Islay, and under the Scotch Whisky Regulations 2009 it falls in the Highland region. ‘Islands’ is a common grouping but not a protected region, and the Islay name may only appear on whisky distilled there.
What casks is Jura whisky matured in?
Since the late 1990s most Jura new make has started its maturation in first-fill ex-bourbon casks. The distillery range then adds finishes and second casks. Jura lists sherry cask, rye cask and French oak versions, and says Seven Wood uses seven types of oak in all. See cask-finished whisky.
