How we compare prices

What a price on Uisge Beatha means, where it comes from, how often we check each retailer, and when we leave a retailer out of the comparison.

Every price on this site comes from a retailer’s own product page or product feed. We record when we saw it, and we show that time next to the price.

Same bottle, not a similar one

We only put two retailers side by side when we have confirmed they sell the same bottling: the same distillery, age, edition, strength and size. A shared barcode helps, but it is not enough on its own if the details on the page disagree. When we are not sure, we leave the listing out rather than guess.

Which offers we show

Retailers that share an owner

Loch Fyne Whiskies and The Whisky Shop have the same owner and usually charge the same price. We still list both, but we do not count them as two independent retailers when we say how many shops sell a bottle.

Some of our links to retailers are affiliate links. If you follow one and buy, the retailer may pay us a commission. It costs you nothing extra: the price you pay is the retailer’s own price, the same as if you had gone to the site directly. That commission is how we pay for the site, so buying through our links helps keep it running.

Commission never changes the order of the prices, which is always lowest first, and it never decides which retailers we show. Where a link on a bottle page may earn commission, the page says so beside the link. Other links go straight to the retailer’s product page and earn us nothing. Guides that link to retailers say so near the top, and how we make money lists which retailers this applies to.
