Underrated whiskies: well priced, widely sold

Age-stated single malts from quieter distilleries that UK retailers stock widely, chosen on price, age and availability, with the lowest current offer.

“Underrated” is an opinion, and this page is data. The bottles below are age-stated single malts from quieter distilleries: full-size official bottlings under £60, each stocked by at least two independently owned UK retailers when we last collected prices. Deanston 12 Year Old at £35.95 at Master of Malt is a Highland malt at 46.3% ABV; Jura 12 Year Old at £33.50 at Master of Malt and anCnoc 12 Year Old at £34.90 at Master of Malt sit at the lower end. For smoke, Ledaig 10 Year Old at £39.50 at Master of Malt is the peated option from Tobermory on the Isle of Mull.

How we chose

The pool is full-size bottles (70cl to 1L) with an age statement on the label, official distillery bottlings, under £60 when we checked, from distilleries outside the most-searched names on this site, and in stock at two or more independently owned retailers (Loch Fyne Whiskies and The Whisky Shop count as one owner). We limit the pool to official bottlings because independent releases price on their own logic, and to two or more stockists because a bottle only one shop sells offers nothing to compare. Nobody here has tasted these bottles for this guide, so treat the list as a shortlist by price, age and availability, not a set of personal favourites.

The shortlist

Jura 12 Year Old: £33.50 at Master of Malt. A 12-year-old single malt from the Isle of Jura at 40% ABV, matured in ex-bourbon casks and finished in oloroso sherry casks. The sherry here is a secondary finish rather than full maturation.

Singleton of Dufftown 12 Year Old: £47.95 at Hard To Find Whisky. A 12-year-old Speyside single malt at 40% ABV, highlighting a grassy, honeyed distillery character, matured in American and European oak casks.

anCnoc 12 Year Old: £34.90 at Master of Malt. A 12-year-old Highland single malt at 40% ABV from Knockdhu distillery in Aberdeenshire, matured in a combination of second-fill American oak, ex-bourbon and ex-sherry casks.

Deanston 12 Year Old: £35.95 at Master of Malt. A 12-year-old Highland single malt bottled at 46.3% ABV, non-chill-filtered and matured in ex-bourbon casks.

Ledaig 10 Year Old: £39.50 at Master of Malt. The peated 10-year-old single malt from Tobermory on the Isle of Mull, at 46.3% ABV. The peat tag reflects the peated malt Tobermory uses for Ledaig, commonly cited at roughly 30 to 40 ppm.

Tobermory 12 Year Old: £39.99 at Master of Malt. The same distillery’s unpeated 12-year-old, also at 46.3% ABV. Do not confuse it with Ledaig, the peated line from the same stills.

Arran 10 Year Old: £43.14 at Master of Malt. A 10-year-old single malt from the Isle of Arran at 46% ABV, non-chill-filtered and matured mainly in bourbon casks, with a portion finished in oloroso sherry casks.

Cragganmore 12 Year Old: £44.50 at Master of Malt. A 12-year-old Speyside single malt at 40% ABV, distilled through flat-topped spirit stills designed to create an intricate, lightly herbal malt.

Worth knowing before you buy

A quieter distillery is a statement about search interest and shelf space, not about quality or taste. The pool excludes the most-searched names by rule, which is why familiar bottles such as Glenfiddich 12 Year Old and Talisker 10 Year Old are absent even when they are similarly priced; that is a definition, not a verdict. The pool also redraws itself as prices move: a bottle that crosses £60 drops out of the shortlist until it is back in band. Where two or more shops stock the same bottle, compare the delivered price, because a single bottle usually pays a delivery charge. For the full set at each age, see 12 year old whisky, and browse by region on the Highland and Speyside pages.

Retailers and check date

We compared in-stock offers from Abbey Whisky, DrinkSupermarket.com, Hard To Find Whisky, Loch Fyne Whiskies, Milroy’s of Soho, The Whisky Shop, Tyndrum Whisky and Whisky Me in our October 2026 catalogue checks. Loch Fyne Whiskies and The Whisky Shop count as one owner. Prices and stock change; the live table on each bottle page is current, and the retailer’s checkout price is the one that counts. Questions

What is an official bottling?
Whisky bottled by the distillery’s owner under the distillery’s own name, as opposed to an independent bottling, where a separate company buys casks and bottles them under its own label.
What does an age statement guarantee on a single malt?
Under the Scotch Whisky Regulations 2009, an age statement gives the number of years the youngest whisky in the bottle matured in oak casks. A 12-year-old single malt can contain older whisky but none younger; a no-age-statement release makes no claim about age.
