Who we are

Uisge Beatha is a trading name of Single Malt Strategy Limited, a company registered in Scotland (company number SC856969). Our registered office is Devon House, Crook of Devon, Kinross, Perth & Kinross, KY13 0UL.

Single Malt Strategy Limited is the controller of the personal data described here. For anything about this notice or your data, email contact@uisgebeatha.co.uk or see the contact page.

The short version

What we collect and why

Web server logs

Every time your browser requests a page or file, our web server records a log line. It contains your IP address, the date and time, the address you requested (including any search you typed, because site search puts your words in the address, for example /search/?q=lagavulin), the page you came from if your browser sends it, your browser’s user-agent string, and the response code and size.

We use these logs to keep the site running and secure: to find broken pages, diagnose faults and spot abuse. The lawful basis is our legitimate interests in operating a reliable, secure website. We do not use the logs to profile visitors or combine them with other data.

The logs are rotated daily and deleted after 14 days.

Emails you send us

If you email us, for example to report a wrong price or a feed problem, we receive your email address, your name if you include it, and whatever you write. We use it to reply and to correct the site. The lawful basis is our legitimate interests in answering you and keeping our prices accurate. For a retailer or supplier, it may also be the steps needed to enter into or carry out a contract with you.

We keep correspondence for up to 2 years after the matter is closed, then delete it, unless we need it longer to deal with a legal claim.

Things that stay on your device

Our quizzes remember your answers in your own browser’s local storage so you can pick up where you left off. That information never leaves your device and we cannot see it. The cookie notice gives the details and how to clear it.

Clicking through to a retailer

We do not record which retailer links you click. When you choose “View at” a retailer, your browser goes to that retailer’s site, and from then on their privacy notice applies.

Links to Master of Malt go through a tracking link run by the affiliate network Adtraction (the address starts go.adt253.net) before reaching Master of Malt. Adtraction records the click so the retailer can tell that the visit came from us, which is how we may earn a commission. Adtraction and Master of Malt are responsible for that data under their own privacy notices. How we make money explains the arrangement.

Bottle images

Many bottle photos are loaded directly from Master of Malt’s image server (images.masterofmalt.com). When a page shows one, your browser fetches it from that server, which receives your IP address and browser details in the same way our server does.

What we do not do

We do not sell personal data, use it for advertising, or make automated decisions about you. We do not knowingly collect data from anyone under 18; the site is for adults of legal purchase age in the UK.

Who processes data for us

These providers act only on our instructions. We may also disclose information if the law requires it.

Your rights

Under UK data protection law (the UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018) you have the right to:

To use any of these rights, email contact@uisgebeatha.co.uk. We will reply within one month. Because server logs are not linked to names, we may need the IP address and approximate time of your visit to find any log entries about you, and they are deleted after 14 days in any case.

Complaints

If you are unhappy with how we have handled your data, please tell us first so we can try to put it right. You also have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO), the UK data protection regulator: ico.org.uk/make-a-complaint or 0303 123 1113.

Changes

If what the site does with data changes, for example if we add analytics, we will update this notice before the change goes live and change the date at the top.
