The whisky industry in Wales, like in England is older than you might expect. Unfortunately following migration and a powerful abstinence movement the production of alcohol was frowned upon and eventually banned altogether. Happily that trend is now reversing and a number of whisky distilleries are on their way again. For now though Welsh whisky means Penderyn.
Their whisky only hit the market in 2004 but already they’ve established a loyal fanbase and with good reason. As with English whisky Welsh spirit is generally a little pricier than the Scottish so it’s not the place to go bargain hunting.
